"Here is your first dessert" - I love it when a restaurant speaks my language! We felt very lucky to have been invited to check out the tasting menu at The Terrace Restaurant, at the lovely @thehboutiquehotel in Bakewell. The H opened last year, right in the centre of Bakewell, and looks like a wonderful place to stay (hello, @thewhitecompany toiletries!) But the restaurant is a destination in its own right which is definitely worth a visit, whether you're a hotel guest or not. Chef Alex Williams, formerly of The Old Vicarage and the Michelin-starred Adam's in Birmingham, has come up with a dreamy 5-course tasting menu. Changing monthly, it showcases local and seasonal produce in generous portions, with beautifully-considered plating. I've posted the pics in reverse order here because the cardamom custard tart with Yorkshire rhubarb sorbet and poached rhubarb is too beautiful and vibrant to hide away. ⬅️⬅️ Swipe through to see the full menu; in reverse order, we had: • that perfect tart • A Bakewell reimagined: moist almond frangipane, amaretto panna cotta and preserved cherries, with a seriously delicious almond crumb. We both loved this first dessert and it was obviously a great addition to the menu, given the location! • Fillet of New Close Farm beef with seasonal vegetables and a port reduction that was so rich and umami-laden that I would probably have licked my plate clean, were I at home. The beef was reared on a farm just two miles away from the restaurant. • Lemon sole with blood orange, kohlrabi, brown butter and Sauternes sauce. It's blood orange season and these went perfectly with the delicately-cooked sole. • Jerusalem artichoke with smoked bacon and Granny Smith apple. This was such a great combination of flavours! • A lovely, crispy smoked haddock croquette with saffron aioli was delightful as an amuse-bouche. • Spelt sourdough rolls (still warm!) with salted butter- we're talking proper flakes of salt. So indulgent and delicious! • And some lovely herby olives while we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the lounge bar. Fine dining at just £48 a head makes this a very impressive place which we will return to in future. And you should, too! #gift
Had a lovely night out with my new team at work last night to @cutleryworks. It was my *first visit* after a few months of feeling under the weather. Needless to say, I loved it and found it so hard to choose what to eat! Check out my IG story to see what I went for (hint: it was all delicious and I *loved* using the @themilestonegroup app to just order to the table!). I will have to go back again and again to work my way through everything! Then I got home to discover that my box of cookies and brownies from @officialbullion had been delivered! 😍😍 this was the reward for my level of support for their Kickstarter; when they were crowdfunding for their awesome space at Cutlery Works, I backed Bullion and was lured by the promise of cookies and brownies. They are SO GOOD! Check Bullion out at Cutlery Works for yourself, you won't regret it! Very special chocolate and the baked goods are just 👌🏻 best go, there's a brownie calling my name... • • • • • #Sheffield #cutleryworks #kelhamisland #independent #eatstagram #foodie #foodblogger #sheffieldfood #bullionchocolate #bullion #cookies #brownies #chocolate #darkchocolateandseasalt #perfection #foodhall #style #milestone #industrialdecor #baking #delicious #nom #foodphotography #foodporn #instafood #dessert #kickstarter #crowdfunding #supportsmallbusiness #beantobar
Absolutely delicious couscous, feta and steak salad for lunch at home. I can't take the credit for this one, but it was *so* good. Made me long for a bit of sunshine and a few degrees' warmer weather! (Although having steak cooked well done is one of the few foodie sacrifices that have really pained me about pregnancy) Happy Sunday all. Why must the weekends move so fast?!
I've been a little off my Insta game for a while... because I'm 13.5 weeks pregnant and have barely eaten out or much that is Insta-worthy for months! I'm hopefully over the horrendous nausea which saw me surviving on Ritz crackers for a few weeks. My main loves at the moment are these guys in the picture, iceberg lettuce and ice cold fruit squash to drink! Wild 😂 The last few weeks I've started feeling more normal and have been eating some lovely meals again, thanks to my lovely wife for cooking such delicious things. Shout out to @tickledtroutbarlow for the amazing takeout pizza last night when the snow plus our poor planning meant we had very limited dinner options. My wife and I are thrilled to be expecting and we are both happy I'm feeling so much better.
Sticky toffee pud of my dreams at @thepeacockatbarlow. Hubba hubba 😍
